The Allgäu is one of the most beautiful areas in Bavaria popular with visitors from all over the world and an excellent destination all year round. The variety of the landscape with high Alpine regions and lush, green meadows on the foot of the mountains all the way to Lake Constance allows you to experience your holiday exactly the way you want.

If you feel like visiting a city, you can choose between no less than four destinations. Two local capitals – Munich and Innsbruck – are only about 65 miles away. Both are true cosmopolitan cities regarding cultural activities and shopping. Furthermore, you two of Germany's oldest cities are close by: Augsburg (approx. 65 miles) with an historical old part of town and Kempten (approx. 30 miles) with numerous churches, a former royal residence and splendid houses. If you prefer staying in a more rural atmosphere, why not visit one of the farm museums in Illerbeuren (45 miles) or in Glentleiten (40 miles). Not only children are impressed by the open air museums!

You just don't have enough days in your holiday to see everything you want? We recommend a round trip (approx. 65 miles)! First stop: The Wieskirche (1746-1754), a jewel from the Rococo period and included in the UNESCO-World Heritage. After that, you are off ’s to Oberammergau, to see the fascinating »Lüftlmalereien« paintings and wood carvings. After visiting the Benedictine Abbey in Ettal with its impressive basilica, a traditional "Maß" of beer will be waiting for you in the abbey's brewery. After this refreshment, you can enjoy the Linderhof Castle and its park even better. Ludwig II had plans to build a castle on Lake Plansee as well. It is not hard to spot where if you take a boat trip round the lake. The trip is topped off by crossing the border to Reutte, in Austria to enjoy a delicious traditional »Mehlspeis« (sweet dish made of dough).
