Schwangau is located on the foot of the Alps in the Allgäu area with an impressive view of the Bavarian, Lechtal and Allgäu Alps. It is the country of the Royal Castles, mountains and lakes, the most beautiful area of the Ostallgäu. The two world famous Royal Castles overlooking the village from their majestic position: Brave and unreal Neuschwanstein Castle, romantic and friendly Hohenschwangau Castle.

Hiking and biking paths lead you through lush, green meadows and dark forests. Countless large and small lakes have given this area the name „Ostallgäu Lakeland“. A magnificent landscape with two nature reserve areas: Bavaria's largest Alpine reserve, the „Ammergebirge“, the former Royal hunting ground of Ludwig II and the lake „Bannwaldsee“ nature reserve with rare plants, flowers and butterflies.

Schwangau is located 2 miles from Füssen in the Ostallgäu on Germany's Romantic Road, running from Würzburg all the way to Füssen. It is also located on the old Roman road Via Claudia Augusta. Excavations of a Roman bath can be seen near the Tegelberg mountain.
