Animals / Pets

It is strictly forbidden to take animals inside all sights. It is also forbidden to take them in bags or rucksacks inside the sights.

 

 

 

Bus to Neuschwanstein Castle

The shuttle-bus to Neuschwanstein Castle can not be reserved. 
Bus stop village: beside the "Alpsee" parking area P4 (below Hohenschwangau castle)
Bus stop castle: Mary's bridge (above Neuschwanstein Castle)

Rates: 
uphill: € 1,80
downhill:  € 1,00 
up- and downhill:  € 2,60
You pay at the cashier at the bus sation in front of the Schlosshotel Lisl or directly to the bus driver.

!Please note!
There is a steep 15 minutes walk from the bus stop castle to the entrance of Neuschwanstein Castle. Mary´s bridge is 5 minutes from the bus stop castle.

During the summer time there are significant queues on the bus stations. 

The shuttle bus only operates in suitable weather conditions (no snow or ice).


Please be advised that there will be some construction work being done in the road to the Mary’s bridge (Marienbrücke).The shuttle bus to Neuschwanstein castle can’t operate on December 13th, 14th and 15th. We ask for your understanding

 

 

Bicycle

There are bicycle stands across from the entrance of the Museum of the Bavarian Kings. 

 

 

 

Buggies / Caddies

It is forbidden to take buggies inside the castles.

In Neuschwanstein Castle you can leave them in the information center in the courtyard.

In Hohenschwangau Castle you can leave them at the entrance. 

 

 

private car - not possible

The roads to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castle are absolutly closed for public cars. 

There are 4 parking lots in the village Hohenschwangau:

P1 = next to Rasthaus

P2 =  at the roundabout

P3 = next to the cafe Kainz

P4 = next to the lake Alpsee

Caddies

It is permitted to take caddies inside the sights.

 

Collection of Tickets

Reserved tickets have to be collected at least one hour before your confirmed entrance time at the counter "reserved tickets" in the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau.

If you fail to meet the pick up time your tickets will lose their validity and cannot be refunded. "No-Show"-fees will be charged.

The collection of reserved tickets is only possible at the day of your castle visit. 
The ticket reservation can be cancelled or changed free of charge until 2 hours before your confirmed entrance time. 

 

Horse Carriages to Neuschwanstein Castle...

.. can not be reserved.

You pay directly to the horse carriage driver
Duration of the ride: approx. 20 minutes

!Important Notice!
The horse carriages do not drive directly to the main entrance of Neuschwanstein Castle. You need to walk approx. 10 minutes uphill from the carriage-stop to the castle.
During high season and holidays long waiting times are to be expected.

 

 

Horse Carriages to Hohenschwangau Castle

...can not be reserved.

You pay directly to the horse carriage driver.
Duration of the ride: approx. 10 minutes


During the winter opening hours, there is no carriage transfer to Hohenschwangau castle.  


 

 

Cancellation / Changing the reservation

The cancellation deadline ends 2 hours before your confirmed entrance time. If you fail to meet the deadline, the reservation fee will be charged. 

Changing the reservation:
Changing your entrance time is subject to availability.

If you fail to meet the pick up time the tickets will lose their validity which will result in a significantly later entrance time, if available.

 

 

 

 

Duration of the guided tour

Neuschwanstein Castle: approx. 30 minutes
Hohenschwangau Castle: approx. 35 minutes

 

 

 

Entrance time

You find your entrance time on your ticket. It is very important to arrive at the entrance of the castles at your designated entrance time. Otherwise your tickets will lose their validity and can not be refunded.
The entrance time is written on your ticket as "Einlasszeit". 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Guided Tour

Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castle can only be visited within a guided tour.

Guided tours are offerd daily from
10.00 - 16.00 o´clock (winter opening times) and
9.00 - 18.00 o´clock (summer opening times)
with limited capacity.

Neuschwanstein Castle: January 1st, December 24th, 25th and 31st
Hohenschwangau Castle: December 24th
Museum of the bavarian kings: December 24th and 25th

If you reserve tickets, please note and keep in mind your confirmed entrance time. You find it on your confirmation.

Handicapped


Hohenschwangau Castle

There is no elevator in Hohenschwangau Castle. During the tour you have to pass 120 steps.

Museum oft he bavarian kings
The Museum is handicapped accessible. 
An elevator is availble.

Neuschwanstein Castle
For handicapped people there is the possibility to join a regular guided tour by elevator. Please notice that this service requires a reservation. A reservation fee will be charged. (€ 1,80 per person and castle) 

 

 

Horse Carriages to Neuschwanstein Castle...

Luggage

Baggage can not be stored in the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau! Please note, that it is strictly forbidden to take luggage or backpacks into the Castles. Allowed is only a small handbag.
There are some lockers (medium size) in front of the tourist information in Hohenschwangau.

It is strictly forbidden to take photographs or movies inside all sights.

Opening times (Ticket Center)
Tickets for the Castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau can only be purchased in the Ticket Center. 
Tickets for the Museum of the bavarian kings you can also buy directly in the museum.

Winter 2015/2016 (October 16th 2015 - March 18th 2016)
daily from 9.00 - 15.30 o´clock

Summer 2016 ( MArch 19th 2016 - October 15th 2016) 
daily from 8.00 - 17.00 o´clock

Winter 2016/2017 (October 16th 2016 - 31st march 2017)
daily from 9.00 - 15.30 o´clock

Queue

During high season and holidays there are significant waiting times in front of the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau, as well as at the bus and horse-carriage-stops.

 

 

 

Reservation

Ticket reservation is subject to availability. Reservations are only possible until two days before your day of visit but not later than 15.00 o´clock (local time).

You have to collect the reserved tickets until one hour before your confirmed entrance time at the counter "reserved tickets" at the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau.

Reservations for the same day are not possible.

We will charge a reservation fee for ticket reservations for Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castle. 
individual guest: € 1,80 per person / castle
Groups from 15 paying guests: € 0,90 per person / castle

Ticket sale on spot

The tickets for Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castle can only be purchased in the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau and only on the day of your visit. 
Tickets for the Museum of the bavarian kings can also be bought in the Museum directly.

Reservations for the same day are not possible.

Advice:
For a trouble-free visit of the castles, we recommend a reservation of tickets.

The elevator in Neuschwanstein Castle is generally available once every hour for 1 disabled person or 1 person in a wheelchair (+ 1 person in company).

We recommend wheelchair users to get to the Castle by horse carriage (Please note, that there is no ramp) – for more information about the shuttle bus see "B"
